Dwarf Fortress

Talk about non-FSG physics games.

Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress is a simulation/physics game in which you start with seven dwarves and embark to build a fortress. It constitutes a. Physics game becuase you use many different mechanisms to perform different tasks. The game is composed of ASCII graphics(which use the Terminal/Curses font) which allows it to create enormous maps. I can't post any links right now, but the game is relatively easy to find. I'll post some links and screenshots later nonetheless.

Heh. I made a thread in Off-Topic for non-physics games and started with Dwarf Fortress, but apparently nobody was interested and it got deleted.
You forgot about the hypnotising guitar solo...

The entrance and some hallways of my first sucessful fortress (I cheated a little bit, but who cares...):

(It's a big image, so I linked it.)

Physics include:
-Accidentally digging under a river and flooding your fortress
-Accidentally digging near a magma pool and flooding your fortress.
-Accidentally digging everything around an area, causing a cave-in.
-Acci... Accurate geology - you will find around 10-20 types of mineral, gem or stone in any area, most of them can be smelted/cut/etc.
-World generation simulating many civilisations for hundreds of years
-Bashing everybody and tearing limbs off with a live beetle (only in Adventurer Mode)
-Finally, having 7 dwarfes destroy your fortress because they didn't notice they were on fire before going to the booze stockpile.

EDIT: Did I actually write "cutted"? :?

#define g true
#define h int
#define i bool
#define j return
#define k sqrt
#define l false
i c(h a, h b, h c, h d, h e, h f){j(a+d<=l(e*e-(e*b)<<g+b*b+f*f-(f*c)<<g+c*c))?g:l;}

There. Need more help with physics?

I always make a dump zone for all the stone because it gets in my way, but still a nice entrance. Also: skeletal carp.

I do have a stone dump... :( Lazy dwarves.
I removed everything except Stone Hauling on the immigrants, but they still hunt...
Last moments of my sixth fortress:
A miner is going to the magma forge. A fire imp kills him with a fireball. All well, the others are all sad and go bury the body.
Oh, wait,
THE FOREST IS ON FIRE.
Good thing I had no food stockpiles yet...

This game is weird. Everyone revels in its difficulty, and yet all my fortresses (once I got used to the UI, and before then I just had a poorly built structue that I scrapped because I was bored) have flourished and thrived, with the only hiccups being the rare child snatcher, the occasional stark raving mad dwarf or a stupid dwarf with a fey mood asking for a material I can't possibly obtain.

That's it. Oh, and a pack of monkeys. But one of my marksdwarves took them all single-handedly. And I'm not counting those wuss kobolds. They don't deserve to be mentioned. So I won't mention them.

No dragons, no cave-ins, no lava, no cave floods, (okay, one, but it was anticipated. What do you expect to happen if you dig a free path into your basement for the water to follow?) That idiot mason kept building the wall from the inside, so I kept having to dig him out, then have him rebuild it. Then he'd be stuck inside again, and, well, He was my best mason. I would feel bad if he died, so I let him flood my WIP basement. The water dried up eventually though and now it's a storeroom with more stone and bars than you can shake a stick at.

No goblin hoardes, no bubonic plauges, no running out of supplies, no seiges, very few zombies that are pathetically weak anyway, no skeleton carps, (breathes), no fires, no food shortages, no rodent infestations, none of it. I feel seriously left out.
